Summary: 

• Develops and implements health education program(s) designed to increase awareness and knowledge to patients planning to give birth at Labette Health.
• Develop and provide up to date childbirth education information regarding delivery preparation, childbirth process, parenting, breastfeeding, and home safety.
• Provides classroom education to patients regarding all aspects of labor and delivery and mother-baby care.
• Duties include preparing for each class, teaching the class, and keeping the curriculum current.
• Must work independently, with the Marketing department, and other ancillary departments involved in education to the patient at Labette Health to coordinate childbirth classes.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with expectant mothers and their support system.
• Will give biannual report (2 per year) at an OB nursing staff unit meeting discussing curriculum needs and changes.  Open discussion will take place including education needs of the patient prior to arrival to OB and open forum on how to improve, maintain, and increase attendance of the program.
• Will work with and collaborate with the Director of OB.  Will report directly to the Director of OB.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Current RN license in the state of Kansas
• Prefer 3 years of experience in labor and delivery, nursery, and postpartum care at Labette Health and maintain active nursing staff status of the OB Department at Labette Health.
• Must maintain and be current in all OB education requirements.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word and PowerPoint software.
• Although Childbirth Educator certification is not required, it is highly recommended.

Commitment:

• Provide at least one prenatal class per month (6-8 hours)
• Potential for instructor hours to expand to more hours as the need for additional classes may grow.
